Organizers of the inaugural Kisumu International Trade, Tourism and Cultural Exhibition yesterday launched the event in the lake side city. Speaking on behalf of Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, the County Secretary Dr. Lusi Ojwang’ said the event is poised to be the leading cultural, investment, travel and tourism trade fair dedicated to unlocking the potential of Global Kisumu Tourism. The four day event, also known as Kisumu-2020, will be held between 12th to 15th July, and it will comprise of conferences and exhibitions. It will be ushered in by a peace caravan that will cover political hotspots in Kisumu, Kakamega and Busia counties. “KISUMU-2020 is a niche event specially organized to promote economic activity not only in Lake Basin and Western Kenya, but also nationally,” he said. He said that the Expo will be an avenue to strengthen cooperation among the EAC countries towards greater collaboration and closer economic relations. “As such, the EAC countries stand to benefit greatly from a renewed emphasis on tourism development and enhancement in business network as envisioned in KISUMU-2020,” he said. The Expo will gather in one place international sellers, buyers, corporations, associations, incentive planners, event organizers and the media industry. It will comprise of over 15,000 local and international sellers and buyers and 1,000 conference delegates. The Exhibition will be held at Kenyatta Sports Ground and it is open to the general public while the conference will be held in Imperial Hotel, Sunset Hotel, Kisumu Hotel and Sovereign Hotels. KISUMU-2020 is a joint effort between the International Art Expo and the Western Circuit Tourism Association, Kenya Investment Authority, and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce. The event is fully supported by the County Government of Kisumu, Micro & Small Enterprises Authority and Lake Victoria Tourism Association.
