One more night with the frogs!

Picture this; your house is invaded by frogs. Then you are given two options; spending one more night with the frogs, or spending one more night without the frogs; which one would you choose?

Can you believe that someone was given that option but he chose to spend one more night with frogs in his bedroom?

Well, that is the story of a king in Egypt many years ago.

The Pharaoh, as Egyptian kings were known then, missed an opportunity to get rid of frogs that had invaded his palace and the whole land of Egypt.

This is how the story goes.

One Moses was sent by God to ask the king to let the Israelites, who had been living in bondage in Egypt, to go and worship God in the desert. In exchange, God would drive away the frogs from the land.

The King did not agree to God’s proposition.

This is how the Bible describes this confrontation in Exodus 8: 9-10: “’Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.” “Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said.’”

What! Is he for real? We may consider the king crazy, but he is just a reflection of many of us.

Many times in life, we box ourselves into a corner; we are sick, we are in debt, we are about to lose our families because of mistakes we made, or we are about to lose our jobs because we cannot get along with others.

At such times, one may be asked to make a difficult choice, but one that will help change their situation for the better. Many times, we harden our hearts and refuse to take the counsel that we are given.

We do this because of pride, or fear of the unknown, or because we do not like the options being placed in front of us, or because we don’t like the people who have been sent to speak to us – basically, for reasons of our self-preservation.

Moses had been a member of Pharaoh’s household before he ran away after killing an Egyptian. He came back when God sent him to the Pharaoh. Pharaoh must have despised him when he came back.

“How can a mere slave speak to me and even propose to pray for me? What will people say if they hear that I gave in to a slave? Will they continue to respect me?” Those are the questions that must have been going on in his head.

When we make mistakes and get ourselves in trouble, God always gives us a second chance to repent and come back to the straight and narrow path He has appointed for us. He has a mission for each of us.

When God sends someone to you, it is a good sign. He is willing to give you another chance. Do not harden your heart like Pharaoh and choose one more night with the frogs.

Take the opportunity that God has given you and run. You never know how long His mercies will last!
