It is good to hear that Rev. Terry Jones of Florida has postponed or stopped (or whatever he has done) the planned burning of Qurans, Muslims’ holy book on the eve of commemoration of the September 11 bombing of the Twin Towers in New York, USA. Finally, reason has prevailed. It does not matter the reasons for his stoppage. What is important is that such a provocatiove act againts other people’s religion will not take place, in a world that is already pregnant with religious tension. The Bible, which Rev. Jones purports to propagate, says that we need to love and pray for our enemies. Rev. Jones seems to think of Muslims as enemies, and the Quran AS an abominable book that should not be read by anyone at all. Well, that is his right to hold such opinions. But pray, where is the God of love in all that Rev. Jones does? What wrong has the Quran done? The Quran is just an innocent book, just like the Bible or any other religious literature. It is the people who read and interprete such dogma who are the problem, and these are the ones that Rev. Jones should be reaching out to, with God’s love, in order that they may have a change of attitude and understand what living in a civilised society means. He may have all the reasons to be angry with some people (and who will not be anyway after what happened at the Twin Towers), but i believe that there are better ways of dealing with the problem of world terrorism. And burning the Quran is not the best way. We need peace in the world and religious tolerance, more than bigotry and chest-thumping!! Let justice and peace prevail all over the world.
